Divine Appointment…

“Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place where he prayed.”

Where is your deserted place to pray? That place where you usher in the day? Wrapped in the holy hush of the new day?

Is it a prayer chair? …a nook in the garden?…on a threadbare carpet beside the bed?

Where is that place you greet the day?

That place that you bow your head and heart in humility in the truth…

You are God…I am creature.

Where is that deserted place you pray that affirms you in love and purpose as you offer the gift of the new day to the Father?

May we know who we truly are in God in the gift of each morning and may we experience the deep abiding peace that comes from finding that deserted place ….

Which becomes our sacred place of divine appointment.

The Word…

Lord, who can grasp all the wealth of just one of your Words?

What we understand is much less than what we leave behind…

image via en.wikipedia.org

Like thirsty people who drink from a fountain.

Your Word, Lord, has so many shades of meaning, just as those who study it have many points of view.

The Lord has colored His Word with many hues, so that each person who studies it can see in it what he loves.

He has hidden many treasures in His Word, so that each of us is enriched as we meditate on it.

The Word of God is a tree of life that from all its parts offers you fruit that is blessed.

It is like that rock that is open in the dessert, which from all its parts give forth a spiritual drink.

(Ephraim the Syriac, Deacon from the 4th century)

“Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path.” Ps 119: 105

Have a blessed Sunday.

A Silly for Saturday #2…..

This REALLY tickled me…I may be royalty because I am a child of God…but I don’t think this would go over well with hubby!

Frank A. Clark (1911-1991) is best known for his one panel, one liner sermon, newspaper cartoons entitled “The Country Parson”.  He evangelized thousands of loyal readers with his faith based humor. He once said…

“I think the next best thing to solving a problem is finding some humor in it.”

Oh yes…if I had my way….

It’s said that cupcakes are “God’s apology for muffins”.

Unfortunately, medically, my cupcake days are over…that is unless someone has a really good recipe for gluten free, grain free, sugar free, dairy free cupcakes! (goodbye desserts, pastas, cheeses, homemade breads, grits, gravies, Captain Crunch, and pizza, etc…sigh, sigh, sigh and a tear or two) It’s said when life hands you a lemon, make lemonade…and I agree with Mr. Clark.  Why not find a bit of humor in the tough stuff? I still love cupcakes..a lot…but now I really love baking them for others.  And the wackier and more colorful the better. Cupcakes really DO make people smile…and that is so much sweeter than any double chocolate, swirled icing, marshmallow creme filled cupcake.

“So whoever is in Christ is a new creation: the old things have passed away; behold new things have come.” 2 Cor 5:17

A Reflection of the Son…

Shoot for the moon….

And even if you miss….

image via space.com

You will land with the stars!

Direct all in your life toward the light….Strive to be a reflection of the SON…be that fixed point of light that directs others home.

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” 1 Peter 2:9

I Can’t?…

Ever said I can’t to God?…

image via playingmom.com

Fist clenched, foot stomping, I can’t, I won’t to God?

Your ways are not my ways, my ways are better, I can’t God.

image via biblepicturedictionary.com

Camel squeezing through the eye of a needle too rich in rebellion, selfishness, pride, I can’t God?

Struggle continues…Chaos reigns.

Ever said I can’t to God?

image via heartsunbroken.wordpress.com

Little girl, little boy, weak whimper from within, I can’t God?

I’m lost, alone, drowning, tear-filled, I can’t God?

image via sacredheartdunnc.org

I am weak, you are strong, hide me in your heart, I can’t God?

Mighty arms bend down into the lowliness…

Drawn into the embrace of God…

Wrapped in His love…Consumed in grace.

Together, united, as one…

I CAN GOD!

“Jesus looked at them and said, “For human beings it is impossible, but not for God.  all things are possible for God.”

Mark 10: 27

Beyond the Dot to Dots…

Man between the lines…

image via coloring_crafts.com

We are mind, body, soul and spirit…not just the sum of what is seen exteriorly.

But when sin entered the world man was fractured into parts no longer whole.

image via jbowikipedia.org

The world continues to promote the broken man…

“Live for yorself”…”discover the fountain of youth so you can always look young”…”if it feels good do it”.

And in our relationships we often relate to others in this broken way.

But Jesus came to put all the pieces back together.

image via purgeport.edublogs.org

Sparks fly when we relate to to others as the whole person they are before us.

image via gamedev.net

We are seeing them as God sees them and speaking to them in their wholeness even in their brokenness.

The transfiguration is a reality to us.

We are men and women beyond the lines….beyond the dot to dots.

image via choosemylife.com

Lord may I be given the grace to see the dignity of the whole person in myself and before me.  Let my eyes not remain fixed on the broken pieces but on the Glory of the Divine Image before me.”

Christmas Year Round…

image via crazyinsuburbia.blogspot.com

The Christmas tree stored or recycled….Stockings taken down and mantles cleared…the Wise Men have come and gone, back home to give witness…the creche is packed up and the pointsettias have been put out by the garden gate.

Christmas is over…or is it?!

For each time we allow God to love others through us…

Christmas continues.

Through Him, With Him, In Him…

We become a gift…

A gift that keeps giving…365 days a year.

“Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap.” Luke 7: 38

Opening Our Treasures…

image via numbersleuth.org

The Gold I bring before you King is the “I am of me” longing to be one with the “I am of You”…

The frankincense I bring before you King is the incense of my prayers rising as smoke to Your throne…

image via thebodybarblog.blogspot.com

The Myrrh I bring before you King is the brokenness of me to be immersed in the saving Blood of Your Passion.

image via decktheholidays.blogspot.com

My Gold, my Frankincense, my Myrrh is all of me desiring to be drawn into the depths of Your Heart and planted there to grow, to bloom, to bring You Glory.

“Then they OPENED THEIR TREASURES and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” Matther 2:11b

Lord, may we all OPEN OUR TREASURES and lay them completely before you.

Epiphanies of Life…

 The Epiphany.

The star that sheds just enough light so that we can take one more step and then we must look to the star again.

So like our lives that we, too, live in exile and fear, but also in HOPE.

So emblematic of the strangeness of Christianity; its inconcongruities and contradictions.

Never what we think its going to be, never what we think we want it to be.

Always a fresh twist, a new pain, a new joy.

Always a God whose ways are not our ways.

Always, just when we think we’ve found a foothold,,,

The order to flee to Egypt.

“Heather King”

May your 2012 be filled with daily, wonderful. and glorious epiphanies of God’s extravagant love for you.

HAPPY EPIPHANY
